What It Isn’t
For starters, Tetrahydrocannabinol is not a Tetrahydrocannabinoid. It is from a different class of chemicals than tetras like Delta-8, Delta-8, and Delta-10. It’s known as tetrahydrocannabinol because there are six given elements present in the compound.
Federal provisions have been made for HHC as a legal compound to be possessed, bought, and sold in large quantities. Delta 9 THC, not so much. It comes from hemp, which is legal according to the 2018 Farm Bill. The Farm Bill legally defines hemp as all parts of the cannabis plant that contains less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. Again, HHC is derived from hemp.
You should always check with the local and state law in your jurisdiction, of course.
It is NOT a synthetic cannabinoid, either. It is a hydrogenated derivative. Nothing synthetic or artificial about it. It is man-made, but that doesn’t make it synthetic or semi-synthetic.
There is some confusion about whether or not HHC Liter is a synthetic cannabinoid. I suspect that has a lot to do with, “11-Nor-9β-hydroxy-hexahydro cannabinol, a synthetic cannabinoid derivative which resulted from early modifications to the structure of THC…”
What Is HHC Cannabinoid?
9-Hydroxyhexahydrocannabinol, 9-OH-HHC for short, is a partially synthetic, semi-artificial tetrahydrocannabinol-derived substance.
9-OH-HHC forms when you synthesize Delta 8 THC. And, NO, HHC is NOT the same as Delta 8.
Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8-THC, Δ8-THC)
Delta 8 is an isomer of delta-9-THC. Delta 8-THC can be formed from hemp-derived CBD through an isomerization process.
How Does HHC Make You Feel
For me, the effects of HHC are a lot like THC. I would say it is not as potent of euphoria as delta-8, but it is stronger than CBD. It relaxes me a lot. It kills my stress.

What is HHC, really? Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), has become very popular lately, but I find a lot of confusion around this compound. In this post, I explain what it is (and what it isn’t).
HHC was first made by American chemist Roger Adams in 1944. By adding hydrogen to Delta 9 THC molecules, Adams converted THC to Hexahydrocannabinol. Hydrogenation is a popular process that food manufacturers use to convert products. Hydrogenation turns vegetable oil into margarine, for instance. It’s also often used to preserve foods and it’s found in most baked goods. In many cases, the process also cuts manufacturing costs, enhances flavor, and makes the texture more desirable.
The word hydrogenation carries negative connotations because partially hydrogenated oils are high in trans fats which increase bad cholesterol. What we are talking about here is very different.
Although cannabis oil can be made, used, and converted in similar ways to fat or vegetable oil, it manifests differently. Cannabinoids actually contain properties that reduce your cholesterol levels. Partially hydrogenated oils, on the other, hand affect heart health because they create a reaction that increases your low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and decreases your high-density lipoprotein protein cholesterol.
Hexahydrocannabinol was initially created using a flower specifically bred for high THC content. Making it from raw hemp is much more sustainable because farmers can grow large amounts of it legally in the US. The hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD), instead of THC, acts as the main compound needed for the chemical process that generates the HHC.
